Indian National Science Academy’s aim is to encourage young scientists of astonishing creativity who have made distinguished research contributions in Science and Technology. INSA was established in January 1935 with an objective to promote science in India and harnessing scientific knowledge for the cause of humanity and national welfare.
The Fellowship is intended for researchers (Nationals) from developing countries except India, who have aptitude for research and would be desirous of working in an Indian research laboratory for a maximum period of 3 months. Applicants possessing Doctorate or Master´s Degree in Science or equivalent degree in Engineering/Medicine and allied disciplines, below 45 years of age may apply for this fellowship.
The foundation of the Academy, earlier known as the National Institute of Sciences of India (NISI), was the outcome of joint endeavors of several organizations and individuals and the Indian Science Congress Association (ISCA) which had played a major role with this regard.

- Any citizen of India, who has not attained the age of 35 years on December 31, of the year preceding the year of award, shall be eligible for the award
- Scientific societies of national standing, university faculties, postgraduate departments or research institutions may also make nominations
- A nomination will remain valid for consideration for 3 years or the eligibility age whichever expires earlier.
